Welding Certificate Requirements


Minimum criteria to be met by all Welding applicants:

  • Need to adhere to proper code of conduct and attire
  • BS 4872 certified – The common standard followed by employers to induct welders without any recruitment process. This certification is the most reliable and shows the quality of work by the incoming welder.
  • Need to complete the EN 287 approval test  that displays the knowledge and expertise of the welder
  • Ability to handle the execution of the plan, use safety procedures and be perfect in welding
  • Need to secure good marks in the entrance examination conducted by AWS (American Welder’s Association)
  • Need to apply for PCN inspections and try to get the highest level – PCN Level-3 Welder Inspection

Other requirements:

  1. Need to exhibit possession of skills needed to produce a sound welding material
  2. Have knowledge on various parameters of welding like diameter, radius, thickness, position and designing.
  3. The Welding Institute need to certify the welders’ works and conduct inspections. There are three grades in it:
  • Level 1 – Visually Weld Inspection
  • Level 2 – Weld Inspection
  • Level 3 – Senior Weld Inspection
  1.  A certification course in Associate welder inspector is preferable

General Requirements for ALL welders (According to their specialisation)

  1. ASME 9 training
  • Generally required by welders who are specialising in pressurised system regulations
  • Candidates with this certification can directly be taken for the higher management final recruitment process
  1. 2.   Welding procedures complied to EN ISO 15614 Part-I
  2. 3.   Pressure Equipment Directive principles
  • All welding need to be conducted complying to Pressure Equipment Directive principles
