Project Management Certification Requirements


A project management certification is required to be possessed by candidates who would like to become managers or at least middle level professionals in handling various projects in an organization. The minimum education, quality and professional criteria are specified below.

Minimum criteria to be met by all Project Management certificate applicants:

  • Candidates need to clear the Project Management Professional certification examination successfully with good grades
  • Need to complete the 6 mandatory and 6 optional courses with the least grade being C
  • Need to at least possess a bachelor’s degree certificate
  • At least 4500 hours of experience in project management is essential if the candidate has completed education till the Bachelor level or 7500 hours of experience in project management is required if the candidate has only completed studies till the diploma level

Project management professional examination details:

Time: 4 hours (maximum)

Type of questions: Questions with multiple choices

Number of questions: 200

Other requirements to claim Project Management certificate:

  1. Need to showcase skills in project strategy building, project management, and following best project practices
  2. Should have the ability to execute plans so that team goals can be achieved with combined contribution
  3. Have knowledge on quality and timely delivery
  4. Should have excellent communication skills
  5. Need to earn continuous credits in Project management through recertification
  6. Areas that are required by candidates to be educated on:
    1. Project Time and quality management
    2. Risk management in projects
    3. Management Cost systems
    4. Staffing and training professionals
    5. Scope management and execution
