Private Pilot Certificate Requirements


Private pilot certification requirements are to be possessed by incumbent pilots who have completed their training and education in the field of aviation. The private pilot certificate is very useful to give the candidate complete control and authority to fly under rules guided by visual flights. The following are some of the requirements to be met in order to get the private pilot certificate.

Minimum Criteria To Be Met By All Private Pilot Certificate Applicants:

  • The minimum age to apply for the private pilot certificate is 17 years
  • Should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must possess a medical certificate endorsing the health of the candidate as issued by the Aviation Medical Examiner
  • Should appear for the private pilot test and must pass it properly
  • Complete the mandatory period of training

Other Requirements To Obtain The Private Pilot Certificate:

  • Training experience required: Minimum 40 hours where half of the number of hours should be spent under an instructor and at least one fourth of them without any guidance
  • At least 5 hours of cross-border flying experience
  • At least 3 hours of night flying experience
  • Also candidates need to appear and pass the oral examination which is conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration
  • Must have a knowledge of various areas of operation of the flight with all the hands-on techniques needed to fly without any supervision
  • Must have a good understanding of the aeronautical science and must be able to coordinate activities with ground technical staff very well.
