Lifeguard Certification Requirements

ALL Lifeguards:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age and above
  • Must be licensed in three general divisions:

1)      Lifeguard Training

2)      First Aid

3)      Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

  • Have a responsibilities and duties in taking charge for the security and protection of the people
  • Considered to be part of the emergency services scheme in cases of incidents that requires first aid and immediate response
  • Must coordinate in times of emergency circumstances and enforce rules to foresee early problems to prevent further damage and by giving adequate medical assistance
  • Must be a strong swimmer, trained in first aid and skilled in water rescue providing sufficient equipments in case of emergency situation
  • Must be knowledgeable and capable in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation which accounts as emergency procedure being done with an effort of reviving the blood circulation and preserving the brain function of the person who is in a state of cardiac arrest
  • May be obliged to attend in-service trainings to help them advance and strengthen their lifeguarding competencies

  • Lifeguard Training
    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
    • YMCA Lifeguarding
  • First Aid Training
    • American Red Cross Community First Aid & Safety
    • American Red Cross Standard First Aid
    • National Safety Council “Green Cross” 8 Hour First Aid course
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Training
    • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer / AED
    • American Heart Association CPR for the Health Care Provider issued last year 2010
