FAA ATP Certificate Requirements


An FAA ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) certificate is mandatory when a candidate is opting for a job in the aviation sector and wants to become a pilot. There is intense competition for the job of a pilot and candidates must try to gain the FAA ATP certification. This gives an edge to the candidates over their competitors.

Since the number of participants applying for the certification is high, students need to work hard, complete the training course and write the relevant examinations pertaining to the ATP certification. Below mentioned are the details on how the candidates can achieve the same.

Minimum criteria to be met by all FAA ATP Certificate applicants:

The below are the minimum criteria to be met by candidates who would like to opt for FAA ATP certification:

  • Candidates need to complete their basic course and specialised course in pilot education and training as described below:
  • For those candidates who have crossed the level of post-graduation, the minimum requirement is to have minimum 6 years of industry experience equivalent to 1000 hours of work or more.
  • For those candidates who have crossed the level of graduation, the minimum requirement is to have minimum 6 years of industry experience equivalent to 1500 hours of work or more. Also they need to undergo mandatory airline transport training.
  • For those candidates who have crossed the level of secondary degree, the minimum requirement is to have minimum 6 years of industry experience equivalent to 3000 hours of work or more. Also they need to undergo mandatory airline transport training for at least 20 hours which for a graduation holder would be just 10 hours.
  • For those candidates who have crossed the level of high school, the minimum requirement is to have minimum 10 years of industry experience equivalent to 6000 hours of work or more. Also they need to undergo mandatory airline transport training for at least 30 hours.
  • Candidates need to successfully appear and pass the Airline Transport Pilot test.
  • The format of the paper is of multiple choice questions of about 200 questions. Candidates successfully selected in the written test will go across the oral test in front of an esteemed panel.
